Eligibility Criteria

- School Type: Students should be studying in Government, Government-aided, or local body schools.
(Students from Kendriya Vidyalayas, Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas, residential schools, or private schools are not eligible.) - Parental Income: Annual family income should not exceed ₹3.5 lakh.
- Academic Performance:
- The student must have scored at least 55% in Class VII to appear for the selection test in Class VIII (5% relaxation for SC/ST students).
- For continuation, the student must score at least 60% in Class X (relaxable by 5% for SC/ST) and secure promotion in Class IX to X and XI to XII in the first attempt.
Selection Process
The selection of students for NMMS is done through a state-level examination conducted by the State/UT education departments.
The exam usually consists of two parts:
- Mental Ability Test (MAT)
- 90 multiple-choice questions
- Tests reasoning, critical thinking, problem-solving, and pattern recognition
- Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT)
- 90 multiple-choice questions
- Covers subjects like Science, Social Studies, and Mathematics (based on Class VII & VIII syllabus)
